It is best for the child to feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the assessment. A familiar environment is most appropriate, usually the child’s home or school, if the school are happy to accommodate that.

A diagnostic assessment is so much more than just a diagnosis. It will show whether dyslexia is present, but it will also provide a profile of strengths and needs. Occasionally an assessment does not provide the information for a clear diagnosis. Recommendations and advice can still often be provided.
Sometimes a recommendation may be made for additional assessment by an alternative professional such as a psychologist or occupational therapist.
